If you've spent any time on SkinTok, you've heard of The Ordinary. It's the Canadian skincare brand that made "clinical formulations with integrity" a household phrase and it's become one of the most searched skincare brands among Sri Lankan shoppers. The problem? Most of what shows up on local marketplaces isn't the real thing.
This guide covers what The Ordinary actually does, which products are worth your money, and how to make sure what lands on your doorstep in Colombo, Kandy or Galle is genuine.
Why The Ordinary Is Different
Most skincare brands build a "routine" around a handful of hero products wrapped in marketing. The Ordinary does the opposite it sells individual, high strength active ingredients (like Niacinamide, Retinol or Salicylic Acid) in simple, honestly labelled bottles at a fraction of the price of prestige alternatives. You build your own routine, ingredient by ingredient.
That's powerful but it also means picking the wrong product for your skin type can do more harm than good so a bit of guidance matters more here than with a typical moisturizer.
Where to Start: The Ordinary by Skin Concern
Acne & Breakouts The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid 2% Solution is the go-to for congested, oily skin it exfoliates inside the pore where breakouts start. Pair it with a gentle cleanser rather than layering multiple actives at once.
Dullness & Uneven Tone Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) is the classic answer here, but Sri Lanka's heat and humidity make pure L-Ascorbic Acid tricky to store look at our Vitamin C collection for stabilized alternatives that hold up better in tropical conditions.
Fine Lines & Early Aging Retinol is still the most researched anti-aging ingredient available. Start at a low concentration (0.2% or 0.5%) and use it only at night, 2-3 times a week initially.
Dehydration (Different from Dry Skin) This is the most under-diagnosed skin issue we see. If your skin feels tight but also looks oily, you're likely dehydrated, not dry. Hyaluronic Acid formulations, applied to damp skin, are the fix not heavier creams.
Texture & Enlarged Pores Niacinamide is the brand's best-seller for good reason it regulates oil production, minimizes the look of pores, and plays well with almost every other ingredient.
A Simple Rule for Combining The Ordinary Products
The single biggest mistake we see Sri Lankan customers make is buying five different actives and using them all on day one. Don't. A safe starter routine looks like:
- Morning: Gentle cleanser → Niacinamide → Moisturizer → SPF (never skip this in Sri Lanka's sun)
- Night: Cleanser → one active only (Retinol OR an exfoliating acid, never both the same night) → Moisturizer
Give any new active two to three weeks before judging whether it's working.
Why Authenticity Matters More Than Price
The Ordinary's simple packaging is unfortunately easy to counterfeit, and Sri Lanka's grey market has no shortage of relabelled or diluted bottles being sold at "too good to be true" prices. Since these are active ingredients applied directly to your skin, a fake isn't just a waste of money it can genuinely irritate or damage your skin barrier.
At Healthy Corner, every product is sourced through authorized channels, priced transparently in LKR, and shipped with proper packaging so what you apply to your face is exactly what the label says.
